Kevin Olliff is an animal rights activist who was arrested on April 18th, 2009. He was absurdly arrested for three-year-old protest-related activity and was facing 10 felony charges. These felonies are multiple counts of: stalking, conspiracy, conspiracy to stalk, and threatening of a public servant. His bail was set at approximately $460,000.

He did not meet bail and is currently being held at Chino State Prison for evaluation prior to his sentencing.

On Friday, March 19, 2010 Kevin entered a plea of "No Contest" to six of the ten felony charges against him. In a non-cooperation plea agreement, the remaining charges were dismissed.

As such, Kevin's efforts to advance the issue of animal rights and welfare to the center stage of public awareness and debate obviously serves a legitimate purpose to bring about societal change for the benefit of animals. In this case, he is seeking to change entrenched but often outmoded attitudes about animal testing and research, just as others within the advocacy community in recent years have changed public attitudes about the long-standing traditional methods for the production of foie gras and the decades long use of "battery cages" for chickens, thereby successfully achieving California legislation to end these cruel practices, despite opposition from established business interests. In these efforts, he has participated in a number of public pickets, demonstrations, and leafleting activity collectively with other concerned members of his community, as well as other members of the general public, in voicing opposition to the use of animals in scientific, medical, or consumer-product research. His heartfelt belief is that animals do not need to die in order to develop yet another "miracle diet" drug or to provide a medical-benefit "marketing angle" to increase the sales of a juice drink, and that increased public awareness would help end or at least reform these practices and promote the use of alternatives to live-animal testing, just as modern computer-graphics programs have largely replaced the practice of requiring the nation's school children to dissect millions of live frogs every year in the name of science education.

So as part of his advocacy, Kevin continues to participate in public pickets, demonstrations, and leafleting activity which has included such at and about the University of California-Los Angeles (UCLA) campus, as well as neighborhoods and residences of those affiliated with UCLA who were involved with animal testing on primates. There is not one shred of evidence in the indictment that Kevin committed any violent or illegal activities either against UCLA or any of the researchers, or anyone else, with any and all of his activities instead constitutionally protected. But it is this advocacy that the Indictment seeks to criminalize and is therefore challenged..."
